The Palestinian people deserve much more than a symbolic trial. They deserve for the crimes committed against them to be prosecuted in real courts, with real consequences for the criminals and reparations for the victims. But as we know, all attempts to strip Israel of its impunity are systematically beaten back, with the U.S. leading the charge. So, in the absence of official justice, there must be a people’s justice. People of conscience must step forward to hear, document, and pass judgement on the crimes of both the past and the present. That is what the Russell Tribunal on Palestine — with its extraordinary panel of speakers and distinguished jury members –represents. It deserves all of our support. Meanwhile, we must continue to build grassroots movements that will eventually make the truths exposed by the Tribunal impossible to ignore.
