Clara Cernat and Thierry Huillet’s violin and piano duet will give a concert of high quality in honor of Stéphane Hessel, an exceptional European personality, hero of the Gaullist Résistance and Ambassador of France.
This magnificent concert, inspired by a spirit of peace and justice, will start with Mendelsohn’s sonata for alto and piano, a masterpiece written at the age of 14th. Two modern and contemporary pieces will answer to eachother : Ernest Bloch’s Suite hébraïque and a violin solo piece created by Thierry Huillet and played for the first time : “Metta”, dedicated to peace in the Arab world.
The second part of the concert will move you to a romantic and inspiring dialogue between French piano and Romanian violin. Tchaikovsky’s serenade melancolique opus 26 will be followed by la danse macabre of Saint-Saens, before concluding with the Czech composer Smétana: “from my homeland”.
The Institut Français’ Louis Lumière room’s 250 seats will be on sale for £10 for students and £15 for regular tickets.
The concert provides an opportunity for those who want to support Stéphane Hessel’s work to organise the second session of The Russell Tribunal on Palestine to be held in London in November 2010. After the concert, benefactors will be invited to a reception where Stéphane Hessel will present this initiative.
